Bucharest subways – faster than light?!
Tzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, and the train stops hissing loudly. In his madness, Ceausescu wanted to have a 100% Romanian subway, but he got one as noisy as the New York’s. Let’s stop here comparing the two, because they don’t feature more common points, so let’s claim that “unique” is the word that describes Bucharest’s tube the best.
Built in a span of few years the Romanian underground was designed so that all stations have different designs and architecture. Dark, sometimes dusty, sometimes humid, the Romanian tube can take you 20 or more years back in time.
Sometimes it literarily takes you back in time: “Got in the train at 11:51 AM and reached my destination at 11:50AM” I told a friend of mine. “But that’s time travel!” he shouted. Now, don’t jump to call the CERN in Swiss, because the Romanian trains DO NOT travel faster than light! It’s just because of their unsynchronized clocks you “travel” trough time. But it’s worth taking a ride. And believe us, compared with the traffic jams on the top, the trains underground are going light speed all time.

Odd looking entrance and exit gates, station architecture, dark, communist atmosphere, trains 100% covered in graffiti.
Why not to use the subway
It’s not barrier free. No elevators and very few working escalators. No public toilets.
