The cultural diversity of Transylvania is simply astonishing. You can find here gold mines, salt mines and ancient mineral water spas built by the Romans, Dacian fortresses, Hungarian Castles, Saxon villages, unique Romanian churches, gypsies living in tents, cities resembling western European ones as well as mountain villages where people live exactly as they did hundreds of years ago and the list goes on. Transylvania has all the multi-ethnic culture you can possibly expect. Also, the mixture of languages here is extraordinary and, besides Romanian, you should fine easily people speaking Hungarian, German, French or English.

Besides the tales of the bloodthirsty vampires reigning on these lands, Transylvania has a huge mythological and mystic background. They say that the witches here are the real thing and they can tell your future just by looking at you. Religion mixes with mysticism, history with mythology, tradition with modernism and new with old. Despite its troubled history, Transylvania is today the most developed region of Romania, partly because of tourism but also because of the influences of western mentality which has been stronger here than in other parts of the country.
