The National Museum of Art or The Royal Palace

The National Museum of Art is hosted by the former Royal Palace and it is the most representative art gallery in Romania. It is located in downtown Bucharest in the Revolution Square (Piata Revolutiei).

So, if you have other plans, it’s time to change them and go see the National Art Museum of Romania. Hosted in the former Royal Palace, this museum displays works of Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet, El Greco, Picasso and also by famous Romanian painters as Grigorescu.

Now, if you are accustomed with the scarcity of paintings in the similar western museums, where they go under the principle “one wall – one painting” you’ll find the walls of the Romanian National Art Museum quite crowded. A good thing, because you can get the chance to get closer to paintings because not everybody crowds in the same spot, as it happens with the Louvre and its Mona Lisa.

And it goes even better: compared with other museums you can get really close to the pictures!

But don’t go on Mondays and Tuesdays! It’s closed! And when you go there think that this museum was almost destroyed during the 1989 Revolution, and hundreds of paintings of its collections were lost forever with even bigger numbers badly damaged by bullets and fires.
